Plastic Surgery Options for Men
Gynecomastia Surgery
(Male Breast Reduction)
Gynecomastia surgery reduces a man’s breast size and creates a more masculine shape to the chest. Surgery for gynecomastia correction can involve removal of tissue via liposuction alone or direct excision. In more severe cases of gynecomastia, the position and size of the areola can also be adjusted. There are many potential underlying causes of gynecomastia, including hormonal changes, genetics, obesity (pseudogynecomastia), or the use of certain drugs or medications.
Male Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can drastically improve body shape and contouring by removing excess fat from almost any location. Some stubborn fat deposits can be resistant to your best efforts at diet and exercise. Liposuction can directly target those areas surgically to remove unwanted fat. One of the greatest advantages of liposuction is that it typically leaves minimal, barely noticeable skin scars.
Blepharoplasty(Eyelid Surgery)
A blepharoplasty improves the appearance of droopy eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle or fat. As you age, the muscles supporting your eyelids weaken, and the skin on your eyelids naturally expands and stretches over time. Excess fat may deposit in or around the eyelid as well. Eyelid surgery seeks to revert these changes to reveal a more youthful eye.
Male Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck (formally known as an abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and surrounding area to create a flatter stomach, more defined waist and improved body contour. Aging, genetics and weight fluctuations can all contribute to excess skin and fat in the abdominal area and we offer a wide variety of tummy tuck procedures to address those concerns.
Male Brachioplasty(Male Arm Lift)
An arm lift (formally known as a brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess loose or sagging skin and fat from your upper arms to reshape them and provide a slimmer and more youthful look.
Male Thigh Lift
A thigh lift surgery reduces excess skin and fat from the thighs to reduce sagging and provide a more aesthetic contour. It is often combined with liposuction to improve contouring of the area even further.
Abdominal Etching
Abdominal etching utilizes liposuction to strategically remove fat from the abdomen to reveal your natural ab muscles and make them more prominent. If you’ve struggled to achieve a 6-pack despite a regimented diet and exercise program, abdominal etching may be an option.
Male Brazilian Butt Lift
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a cosmetic surgery that uses liposuction to remove fat from undesirable areas while transferring fat to the buttocks to enhance it’s size or shape. The liposuction in a BBL surgery targets specific areas around the hips, waist and buttocks to contour the body in a way that accentuates a masculine figure with a shapely butt.
Male Fat Transfer
Sometimes despite proper diet and exercise, it can be challenging to achieve a well-defined and muscular look. Fat transfer can be performed to select areas, most commonly the chest and shoulders, in order to create a more sculpted appearance.

FAQs about Plastic Surgery for Men
What plastic surgery is most common for men?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ 2020 statistics, the 6 most popular plastic surgeries for males were:
Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Cheek Implant (Malar Augmentation)
Liposuction
Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Can you get a six pack with plastic surgery?
Abdominal etching, sometimes referred to as “six-pack surgery”, can assist in achieving a six pack. With targeted liposuction, stubborn fat can be removed in a pattern that aims to emphasize the shape of the abdominal muscles. If you have minimal body fat, a stable weight and maintain a healthy diet, you may be eligible for abdominal etching.
Who is a candidate for male plastic surgery?
The following are a general set of requirements to be an eligible candidate for plastic surgery:
Generally fit and healthy
Body mass index (BMI) less than 35. You can calculate your BMI here
Smokers should quit smoking at least 4 weeks prior to surgery, as well as after
You have reached and are maintaining a stable weight
Realistic expectations
Valespring reserves the right to turn down patients who do not meet the necessary physical or psychological criteria for cosmetic surgery, and would do so only because we make your health and safety our top priority. To find out if you are a surgical candidate, book a FREE consultation today!
How do I know if I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?
Usually if there is excess or sagging skin that needs to be removed, then a tummy tuck is the correct procedure. Liposuction focuses on targeted fat removal to contour the body’s shape but does not remove any excess skin. It is often recommended to combine both liposuction and a tummy tuck for optimal aesthetic results.

Does OHIP cover gynecomastia surgery?
There are certain situations in which OHIP does cover gynecomastia surgery.
Adolescent gynecomastia which has been sustained for 2 years as the result of hormonal imbalance may be covered by OHIP.
Gynecomastia secondary to endocrine disease, genetic disorders or chemotherapy may be covered by OHIP.
Pseudogynecomastia as a result of massive weight gain / loss is not covered by OHIP. Liposuction is not covered by OHIP.
We currently do not offer OHIP-covered gynecomastia surgeries at Valespring.
Does gynecomastia go away?
The majority of cases of gynecomastia in adolescent males resolve by age 20. Beyond that, gynecomastia is unlikely to resolve without surgical assistance. If your gynecomastia is related to a particular prescription drug, changing that medication (under the direction of a physician) may improve your gynecomastia. Similarly, reducing alcohol, marijuana and anabolic steroid use may also help gynecomastia to resolve.
Does liposuction work on men's belly fat?
Yes. Liposuction is a popular procedure for men who want to eliminate fat around the abdomen. It is important to understand that liposuction is focused on body contouring and should not explicitly be used for weight loss.
How long does it take to fully recover from blepharoplasty?
It will take around 6 weeks to fully recover from your eyelid surgery. Most patients are ready to go out in public and return to work within two weeks, and bruising and swelling will have largely subsided by then.
How long does a brachioplasty take to heal?
The arms are likely to feel swollen, tight and sore for the first few weeks after surgery. Mild bruising is also likely during this period. It will typically take another 2 to 4 weeks of recovery before exercises involving the arms can be done. Final results typically become apparent after 6-12 months.
How long do arm lifts and thigh lifts last?
Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle will help promote long-lasting results. Inevitably, age or other factors may cause the arms or thighs to change shape over time. A subsequent surgery may be recommended if a patient wishes to improve recurrent arm or thigh laxity, but this is rarely necessary.
Does ab etching leave scars?
Skin scars from abdominal etching are typically hidden fairly well and are very small and barely noticeable. All surgeries will leave scars, but they will also tend to fade over time. This can depend on many factors, including genetics, age and ethnicity.
How long does male Botox® last?
Botox® is temporary and will usually last 3 to 6 months.
What age do men start getting Botox®?
A patient must be at least 18 years old to receive Botox® treatment. Men seeking Botox® treatment usually start when they are in their 40s. It is becoming increasingly more common for men to start Botox at an earlier age (in their 20s or 30s) in order to prevent wrinkle formation.
