What is a BBL?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a cosmetic surgery that uses liposuction to remove fat from undesirable areas, and then transfers that fat to the buttocks to enhance its size and shape. The liposuction in a BBL procedure usually targets specific areas around the hips, waist, belly, and back to contour the body in a way that accentuates a natural-looking hourglass figure. At Valespring Cosmetic Surgery Institute, Dr. Stephanie Dreckmann will develop a surgical plan unique to your needs and will help you achieve your vision for your body. Dr. Dreckmann is a board-certified, highly talented plastic surgeon who specializes in liposuction with years of experience performing Brazilian Butt Lifts in the Greater Toronto Area.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery - Step by Step

Liposuction

Liposuction for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) starts by first identifying the key areas for fat reduction that will result in an enhanced buttock contour. Typical areas include the flanks, lower back, and abdomen. Dr. Dreckmann will work with you to craft a liposuction plan unique to your body. During the procedure, tiny cuts are made into the skin and a narrow tube (called a cannula) is inserted under the skin. A vacuum connected to the cannula suctions the fat from your body. in a growing number of gynecomastia patients, specifically those with pseudogynecomastia. It is a less invasive procedure with minimal visible scarring and allows for excess fat in the breast to be permanently removed. Small incisions are made on the side of the chest, areola or armpit to insert liposuction tools to suction out the fat.

Fat Injection

After liposuction, the removed fat is prepared for injection (fat grafting). The processed fat is then injected into the buttocks and hip areas. This is often able to done under ultrasound guidance to ensure maximum safety. Typically 200 to 1000 cc of fat are injected on each side, and the amount will vary from patient to patient. There is a limit to the amount of fat that can be transferred to a given location during a procedure. Beyond a certain volume of fat, the amount of fat that survives the transfer drops off and the risk of complications rises.

Compression Garments and Massage

After the procedure you will be given a complimentary compression garment. It is important to wear the garment as instructed for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. It will reduce swelling, bleeding, bruising, pain and discomfort, and most importantly it will help you achieve the optimal body contour after your surgery. Some patients choose to have lymphatic massage performed after their surgery to accelerate and assist with recovery.

FAQs about Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL)

What will a BBL look like after 10 years?
Many BBL patients maintain great results for a long period, even after 10 years, provided the patient doesn’t gain or lose a large amount of weight and follows a proper diet. A BBL does not account for skin loosening over time, which is often age-related. A touch-up BBL may sometimes be recommended in specific cases to help maintain the shape.
